Learning Support
Our excellent Individual Needs Department offers supplementary help for pupils throughout the school who need additional support in Literacy. Early Years staff have access to advice and support from the Department at all times, with children being monitored on a case-by-case basis. Children are withdrawn from Literacy classes in small groups from the Reception stage onwards and offered tuition with specialist teachers.
The Department caters for a range of Specific Learning Difficulties including dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and global learning delay. Emphasis is placed on building the children's confidence and self-esteem whilst enabling them to reach their full potential.
Teaching practices are based on current DfES guidelines, centring on a synthetic phonics approach. Staff are in regular consultation with both parents and class teachers, with each child receiving a termly Individual Education Plan.
