Extra-curricular Activities

At Duncombe we believe that by encouraging children to explore a wide variety of opportunities it will equip them with the skills, confidence and aspirations to broaden their horizons and develop their independence.

Most of the visits and events experienced by our pupils are of an educational nature and linked to the curriculum. Typical trips for the younger children include a local train journey, a visit to a pizza restaurant to make their own pizzas, an activity day at St Albans Abbey and days out to Windsor Castle and a wildlife park. As children progress through the school they have many opportunities to visit historic sites, stately homes, galleries and museums, to enjoy theatre and concert outings, literary weekends and field trips to environmental centres.

In addition there is an annual school sleepover for Year 2 children, an overnight study trip locally for Year 3 and a two night study trip further afield for Year 4. There is an annual residential outdoor pursuits and adventure holiday for Year 5 pupils and a five day French trip combining experience of French life, language and culture with various outward-bound activities for Year 6, plus the annual Duncombe ski trip. Recent skiing destinations have included Canada, Norway, Austria, the USA, Italy and France.

The After School programme provides an extensive range of activities, some of which vary on a seasonal basis. Typical options include trampolining, bowling, film club, Mad Science, jewellery making, tap, Spanish, pottery, sailing, golf and Rainbows.
