Learning Support

Duncombe's Individual Needs department offers supplementary help for pupils throughout the school who need additional support. Emphasis is placed on building the children's confidence and self-esteem whilst enabling them to achieve their personal best.

Staff have access to advice and support from the department at all times, with children being monitored on a case-by-case basis.

From the Reception stage onwards, children are offered tuition with specialist teachers individually, or in small groups. In addition, children are also supported in the classroom by their class teacher and teaching assistants.

Teaching practices are based on current DfES guidelines, centring on a synthetic phonics approach. Staff are in regular consultation with both parents and class teachers, with each child receiving a termly Individual Education Plan.
