Parents' Association

PA Mission

Objectives of the Parents' Association

The objective of the Parents' Association is to advance the education of the pupils. This may be achieved in three main ways;

  1. To develop more extended relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school
  2. To engage in activities which support the school and advance the education of the pupils
  3. To provide and assist in the provision of facilities for education at the school (not normally provided)

There are 14 members of the Parents Association, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer plus 10 committee members (including 2 teacher representatives).

The full constitution is available on request.

Introduction

The PA aims to provide events that are not just about raising money, for example, it tries to run a free event for every child every term. These have included plays, magic shows, puppet shows and discos.

There are Year Representatives within the PA to improve the communication with parents as well as to coerce them into participating in the events! A detailed newsletter is published each term communicating all the activities of the Association as well as thanking the many voluntary helpers without whom the events would not be possible.

Two of the main fund raising events are the Christmas Bazaar and the May Fair and each Summer there is a dinner-dance which can range from a Barn Dance to a Summer Ball. The PA also organises two uniform sales per school year where parents send in good quality uniform for sale to other parents, with the Association taking a percentage of the sale price.

Items provided by money raised in recent years include an all-weather sports pitch, library equipment, digital cameras, computer software, stage lighting, an adventure playground and a sports pavilion.

The PA have an on-going project to produce authentic historical costumes for school activities and we always welcome new members to our team of costumiers!

The aims of the PA have a serious intent but are also about friendship and enjoyment. We do hope to welcome you to Duncombe and that you will participate in and have fun at the PA occasions.

If you are a current parent at Duncombe you can log into the Parent Portal, where you can find contact information for key members of the PA and view our Business Directory.
