Dear Team Duncombe 2071
With a significant focus on Wellbeing this week we have spent assemblies and Global Be Well Day on Thursday looking at the Be Well Charter with a particular focus on mental wellbeing contributors of connecting, doing and giving. The role of Empathy and putting ourselves in the shoes of others was a central theme. Upper School pupils listened to Catherine Henderson from Herts Welcome Refugees and explored the role the charity performs in our local area.
In a lovely ceremony originally conceived by Miss Angus, Duncombe School 2021 gifted and connected to the future Duncombe 2071 by planting four Time Capsules which contained a letter from our Headmaster, work and reflections from our pupils, badges, the NHS Rainbow and explanation about the weekly clapping, literature about Covid-19 and how Bubbles, online learning and social distancing formed part of the pupil, staff and parental experience at Duncombe over the past 18 months, even a Duncombe Bear mask made its way in there!
A beautiful Weeping Cherry Tree just outside Treetops has been planted to mark the site with a plaque to be added soon.
Our hope is when these capsules are dug up in 2071, the school will have continued to go from strength to strength and that the contents of the capsules will provide the future Team Duncombe with first-hand information and artefacts, helping to educate them about these strange times we have experienced, in a positive way.
