Team Duncombe are celebrating the news that an amazing 15 scholarships were awarded to our current Year 6 cohort. Not only this, but all children who sat examinations for Independent Secondary Schools obtained a place at one or more of their preferred schools. This included a group of children being offered places at highly academically acclaimed schools including St Albans School, The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School and Brighton College.

We strongly believe that high academic standards are achieved through a diverse curriculum, specialist teaching and a vast number of opportunities. Our belief is that all of these enable independent and creative thinking, resulting in all-round academic excellence. This year’s scholarships pay tribute to this belief with awards being offered across an array of areas and Duncombe having their NACE accreditation (The National Association for More Able Children in Education) upheld after our recent re-accreditation inspection.

The incredible 15 scholarships (5x Academic, 5x Sport, 3x Music, 1 x Art and an All-rounder) were all awarded by local prestigious Independent Secondary Schools, including Haileybury College, St Albans School, St Edmund’s College and Bishop’s Stortford College. This year, 7 scholarships in total were offered by Haileybury. Martin Collier, Master, Haileybury has previously said “We are always struck by how well Duncombe pupils are taught across the curriculum range of subjects, the result is bright, all rounded, engaged pupils.”

Mr Phelan, when speaking about the successes said “At Duncombe School, we nurture our children’s minds through an inspiring educational journey.  These current achievements pay testament to these beliefs, the dedication of the staff and the exceptional hard work of the pupils”.
