Friday 13th June
What a week it’s been! There’s been a real buzz of purpose and positivity in the air as we’ve enjoyed yet another action-packed week at Duncombe.
Financial Capability Week has once again been a roaring success, with children across the school exploring the world of money, decision-making and enterprise. A particular highlight was our enterprising Year 6 pupils setting up pop-up lemonade businesses on Thursday. Budgets, marketing, price points, profit margins – you name it, they tackled it! A huge thank you goes to Mr Martin, a former parent, who generously continues to support this initiative year after year. We’re so grateful for the invaluable real-world learning experiences he helps provide.
On Wednesday, the true spirit of Duncombe shone through in our Sports Day events, with pupils from both Lower and Upper School giving their all. It was a wonderful display of teamwork, determination and House pride. Congratulations to Hatfield in Lower School and to Woburn in Upper School for running out as this year’s champions! A huge thank you to all staff who supported, and especially to Mrs Johnson and Mr Sopher for their excellent leadership and organisation.
Our youngest pupils in Treetops had a wildly exciting visit from Ranger Stu on Thursday, who brought a touch of the exotic to our classrooms! And today, Nursery and Reception have enjoyed a fantastic trip to Hertfordshire Zoo – a day full of fun, wonder and our wildlife friends!
The Enrichment Programme has continued to provide our pupils with extraordinary opportunities. We started the week with a visit from Birds of Prey and enjoyed a visit from the very engaging Magistrates’ event for Year 6 – a walk-through of a real court case that was as educational as it was memorable. Huge thanks to our visiting Magistrates for generously sharing their time and expertise.
Looking ahead, we’re all set for the Parents’ Association Duncombe Festival this Saturday! With the weather forecast looking favourable, it promises to be a brilliant community event. A heartfelt thank you in advance to all staff and parents involved – from setting up stalls to manning activities – your support is hugely appreciated. Here’s to a fantastic day!
And the activity doesn’t stop there – next week is just as full! We have a series of Breakfast Music Concerts for invited families, more Enrichment events including visits from the local Police. A Thomas Franks nutritionists focus for the end of the week, and of course, the much-anticipated Treetops Sports Afternoon on Thursday – always a highlight of the summer term.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend before the excitement continues next week. Mr Phelan
