Building firm foundations
Nursery’s curriculum is fully enhanced by our specialist teachers and their unique teaching methods, combining creative play with engaging lessons and activities. The children enjoy weekly lessons in Forest School, Music, Science, and PE, and continue their journey of becoming global citizens with both French and Spanish lessons, all of which illuminate their curiosity and instil new passions.
We use recognised numeracy and literacy programs, embedding valuable consistency that stretches from pre-school into Main School. We have also enjoyed immense success in employing synthetic phonics techniques to advance reading levels well above the minimum required UK standards.
Our Nursery curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage, but we understand that every child is different.
Therefore, we personalise our teaching and learning approach to cater to their individual needs, leveraging their strengths, supporting in areas of challenge, and empowering them to reach their potential and attain success.
Making the most of all the facilities available
Treetops, our purpose-built Early Years building, is a bright and stimulating learning environment, with distinct teaching areas for our younger children.
Across the day, the children venture outside to Treetops Garden. Built with little people in mind, the garden is an exciting adventure for their imaginations. The children regularly visit our magnificent Sound Garden, Forest School, and the library for weekly lessons with their Key Workers. Once the children move up to Kindergarten, they visit both the Duncombe Arena and our Music Studio for weekly specialist-taught lessons.
For parents who need childcare outside of school hours, we offer wrap-around care from 7:30am to 6:30pm during term time. We have designed each day of the week to have a different theme, ensuring that children who stay after school are engaged and excited about their extra activities.
During school holidays, we provide flexible care options for children in Early Kindergarten through to Reception at Treetops Holiday Club. Children in Years 1-6, can attend SuperCamps onsite, which is open to both Duncombe children and members of the public.
Children can attend any combination of half or full day sessions (minimum of 3, subject to availability):
• Flexible wrap around offering available
• School day sessions (8:30am-3:30pm)
• Morning sessions (8:30am-12:30pm)
• Afternoon sessions (12:30pm-3:30pm)
Our fees are charged per school term in advance, and we participate in the Government's 15 Funded Scheme for 3 and 4 year olds in Kindergarten and Nursery only.
Begin an unforgettable adventure.
Duncombe School cultivates a love for learning, laying a strong foundation for future success. Our school is divided into three stages: Early Years (ages 2-5), which includes pre-school and Reception, Lower School (ages 5-8), and Upper School (ages 8-11).
From your child's first day at Duncombe, we provide structured and engaging activities that cater to their interests and abilities. This approach fosters ambition and independence, enabling them to become lifelong learners.
Upper School is a new adventure for our children, as they experience learning through our senior school style timetable.
Our inspiring and engaging subject-specific lessons are aligned with the curriculum, underpinned by opportunities for personal growth and leadership. This approach builds confidence and independence in preparation for life beyond Duncombe.
