As we draw this half term to a close, it has been a real pleasure to see our children continuing to flourish and embrace the many opportunities offered to them across the school.

Our youngest pupils in Treetops have been proudly showcasing their learning this week during our special Sharing Afternoons series. It was a truly wonderful celebration of their progress and development across the seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The children’s growing confidence, skills and knowledge are a joy to witness. Feedback from visiting families was so very positive, recognising the impact of the nurturing environment and dedicated teaching at Duncombe Treetops Pre-School. A firm foundation indeed has been laid.

Further up the school, Year 2 have enjoyed a rich day of learning and adventure at Cuffley Bushcraft. Staff shared just how brilliantly the children engaged with the activities, and how well they represented the school—true ambassadors of Duncombe. Bravo, Year 2!

Meanwhile, Year 6 are returning today from four fun-packed, adventurous days at Sealyham in Wales. We look forward to hearing their stories and reflections after what I’m sure has been a memorable experience, full of opportunities to work in teams, overcome challenges and create lasting memories. A sincere thank you to the trip team of staff who ensured this was an excellent experience for the children. Such dedication is greatly appreciated and is what enables us to offer such wonderful opportunities to our pupils.

In assembly this week, we marked World Bee Day. I was heartened by the pupils’ enthusiasm and thoughtful engagement as we explored the vital role bees play in our world. Their curiosity and care were evident and inspiring. If you’d like to learn more together at home, this link offers a fascinating insight into how we can help them thrive: BBKA World Bee Day

Looking ahead, we’re very much looking forward to a lively and joyful final half term. Among the many events and celebrations to come are our Sports Days, Open Classroom, Move Up Day, Concerts, the Lower School Play, the Year 6 Play, and of course, Speech Day to round off what has been a fantastic year of learning, growth and achievement.

Finally. I want to share that Mr Stephen Beeson; our Assistant Site Manager is due to embark on his well- earned retirement at the end of this month. Stephen has been at Duncombe for the past 10 years and we shall miss him greatly. He was keen not to have a fuss made, however. you will be pleased to know that the staff had a lovely gathering earlier today to wish him well and his final day at Duncombe will be Friday next week. I am sure you will join me in wishing him a happy and long retirement!

Wishing you all a wonderful, restful Half Term Break. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for the exciting weeks ahead.
