Friday 27th June
Another busy and productive week at Duncombe, and I continue to feel immensely proud of everything our pupils are achieving.
As I read through the end-of-year reports, I am absolutely delighted with the progress made by our pupils. The outcomes truly reflect the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of both pupils and staff throughout the year – a shared effort that is a joy to celebrate.
This week, I’ve particularly enjoyed observing lessons with a focus on the creative arts, which have beautifully showcased our school values: inclusive, supportive, challenging, and holistic learning. One example highlight was in Music, where pupils explored the powerful influence of music on mood and emotion through the iconic work of composer John Williams. Their ability to analyse how music shapes a viewer’s experience – and then collaboratively compose their own scores – was nothing short of remarkable. A magical insight into the exceptional daily experiences we are privileged to provide at Duncombe.
Our Year 5 pupils stepped back in time this week during their immersive Tudor Day at Kentwell Hall. Dressed in splendid costumes, they truly brought history to life. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and exemplary behaviour were a credit to the school – they did Duncombe proud!
With the ongoing Breakfast Concerts, the air has continued to be alive with music, as our Guitar Concert brought melodies drifting through the corridors. Thank you to everyone who has been involved across the past few weeks. We now look forward to next week’s Evening Music Concert on Thursday, which promises to be a spectacular culmination of this term’s musical efforts.
Further highlights in the coming week include the much-anticipated Year 6 Play on Wednesday, Move Up Morning on Thursday, and the Reception to Year 1 ‘Meet the Team’ event on Friday morning – all key moments as we begin to look ahead to the next academic chapter.
As we head into the weekend, I wish you all a restful and refreshing break. Mr Phelan
