This week we have continued our focus on British Values, exploring the importance of respect and tolerance. The pupils shared some excellent reflections on how we can demonstrate these qualities, both in school and in the wider society. It has been heartening to see and hear such thoughtful ideas expressed with maturity. As we work through the five areas of British Values; we have so far explored The Rule of Law, our next focus will be on Democracy and the many ways our voices can be heard and represented, be that within school, through things such as the pupil council, in our local community and on a national scale.

Today we enjoyed another wonderful Open Morning, welcoming prospective families to Duncombe. Our Year 6 tour guides did an exceptional job leading visitors around the school site, showing both confidence and kindness. The feedback from parents was hugely positive, with many sharing how impressed they were with the warmth of our pupils and how much they valued the opportunities we offer. I felt very proud of the whole school community. What a truly special place Duncombe is!

It has also been a busy week for sport, with several fixtures taking place. A particular highlight was our U11 Boys’ Football Team competing in the IAPS Regional Finals. The boys performed extremely well and represented the school with real determination. They did not win the title on this occasion, but acquitted themselves well going out to the eventual winners. Well done to them!

I had great pleasure in joining Year 3 in one of their dynamic science experiments this week. You may have seen the ‘sun dial’ experiment in the playground where the movement of the sun was being tracked and recorded using a rounders post, chalk and watches. The discussion and interactive nature of the learning was delightful to observe and underscores the lived experience of our children daily with a relentless focus on holistic learning where pupils are challenged to excel, given every opportunity to be themselves and supported across their day. Just wonderful!

Today you will have received a letter from Mrs Wright regarding the updated arrangements for afternoon pick-up and After School Club pick-up. Please do take time to read these carefully. From next week the team will be following the amended processes, and I am very grateful for your support in making these transitions as smooth as possible.

Looking ahead, next week promises to be another busy and exciting one. It is National Space Week, with more information about this in the newsletter. Year 6 will be undertaking their 11+ mock exams, which provide valuable experience, help highlight areas for development and build confidence ahead of the senior schools’ entry process. Year 3 will be stepping back in time on their visit to Celtic Harmony Camp, bringing their Humanities studies to life. On Friday, we will welcome families to our Music Assembly and Mr Smith will also be launching our focus on Black History Month. We also have several netball and football fixtures to look forward to for what looks to be an engaging and exciting week ahead.

Finally, we are hosting our bi-annual Senior Schools fair on Thursday 9th at 6.30pm. With representatives from the Admissions and Academic teams from a wide range of local Independent Schools, it is set to be another wonderful opportunity for families to meet with seniors schools as you look towards Year 7 for your children.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend. Mr Phelan.
