Treetops Nursery

Children start Nursery the September after their 3rd birthday and are based in our Treetops Early Years department

Our children in Nursery learn and play in a stimulating and motivating environment.

At this key time in the children’s learning we work with them to ensure they develop the tools they need to become ambitious and independent learners. With our small class sizes we are able to work at a staff to child ratio of 1:6, we have 2 nursery classes, both of which have a class teacher and 2 nursery nurses. This enables us to work very closely with the children and plan activities and learning around their interests and abilities. Through a range of specialist teaching the children will be able to join in with Music, PE, dance, ICT, Forest School, French and Spanish.

Pastoral Care

There is nothing more important to us than the happiness and wellbeing of our children; this takes priority above all else. We strive to create a warm and calm environment, where children are nurtured and respected.

Head of Early Years, Mrs Katie Copeman has oversight of pastoral care and works alongside our class teachers and room leaders on all pastoral matters.

Nursery Curriculum

Nursery provides children with a broad, fun and stimulating curriculum.

Our children move seamlessly to the Nursery class where we continue to encourage creative play, imagination and self-initiative. Each fortnight we choose a new topic to capture their interest. One of the most popular recent events at Duncombe Treetops was science week when fifteen eggs arrived in an incubator and then hatched out as chicks.

Mornings are spent on classroom activities and children will then tidy away ready for a mathematics, literacy or phonics lesson.

Outside learning and discovering nature are important and our Nursery children very much enjoy supervised visits to our sunken Forest School, where activities such as collecting twigs and leaves are incorporated in art work, Maths and science. After lunch the children enjoy story time, followed by free play in the classroom or the Treetops Gardens. French, Spanish, Music, Dance and PE lessons are provided by Duncombe’s specialist teachers.
