The theme for this year’s International Languages’ Day was ‘Connecting with Global Cognita’. During recent MFL and ICT lessons, children in Years 3-6 made short language lessons in the software ‘Flip’ for other international Cognita pupils. Some pupils created English language lessons, and some taught other languages that they speak at home or are learning in school. Years 1 and 2 recorded songs in French. These resources were uploaded to selected Cognita schools around the globe, for those pupils to interact with and
improve their language skills.

In return, we asked selected international Cognita schools to make and record their own short language learning lessons and our first response was from Brazil. Consequently, we focussed on Brazil and Portuguese today during International Languages’ Day, and the pupils enjoyed watching their Brazilian Cognita students and learning a little bit of the language. The experience of connecting with pupils across the globe was very engaging for the pupils both culturally and linguistically.
